Children’s Education

Shalom Kids is our Hebrew school program for ages 3-13. It includes our Tots class for preschoolers, ages 3-5, and our Aleph, Bet and Gimmel classes for ages 6-13. Shalom Kids meet most every Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Hebrew instruction (ages 6-13) is offered at either 5:00-5:30 or 6:30-7:00. Judaics instruction for the Tots, Aleph, Bet and Gimmel classes is from 5:30 to 6:30 and includes dancing, songs, prayers, Torah, history, crafts and cooking. The programs are conducted entirely by volunteers, though our Rabbi is a frequent guest instructor. Thank you to those who are giving their time to make this a worthwhile program.

Summer camps

Beth Shalom, in coordination with the Israeli group, Soul Train, runs a one-week summer camp. This year’s dates are TBA. To find out about the program, email Amy KeeferCamp Kalsman — Many studies have shown that the surest way to build Jewish identity is by kids’ attendance at Jewish summer camps. As part of the URJ, our kids are able to attend the fabulous Camp Kalsman, located near Seattle.

Bar/bat mitzvah training

Rabbi Ed works individually with each bar/bat mitzvah student in the year preceding his/her bar/bat mitzvah.

B’nai mitzvah policies may be found here.  (Updated August 2015)

Audio recordings of the prayers that the students are asked to learn may be found here.
