Camp Yallah Montana!

About Camp

Camp Background

Congregation Beth Shalom in Bozeman is hosting a long weekend summer camp August 19-22 for kids aged 7-15. We will be using grant funding to cover most of the costs and are asking for an optional donation of $36 per camper.   Children will be supervised and chaperoned by Beth Shalom adult staff and counselors and will sleep in cabins on site. The weekend will include outdoor fun and games as well as Jewish experiences with Rebecca, our Religious Director.  Camp will be hosted at Mimanagish, an established camp in the Absaroka Mountains just over 2 hours from Bozeman.

What is the age range for campers?

We are accepting campers aged 7-15. We may offer 15-year olds the option to be CITs (Counselors in Training) depending on whether we have enough 15-year-old campers. At this time, most of the kids are in the middle range- 10-13 years old, but we have kids of all ages tentatively signed up.

Where will campers sleep?

Campers will sleep in rustic log bunks. Bathroom facilities are in a separate building. Two counselors (at least one college-aged) will sleep in each bunk.  We currently have about 25 kids interested, which will mean 4-5 bunks.

Where are bathrooms and showers?

Bathrooms and showers are housed in separate buildings from the bunks. Both bathroom stalls and shower stalls are private. .

Would you pay CIT’s?

Yes, counselors and CITs will receive a small stipend for the weekend.

Why is this free?

Beth Shalom has been given a grant which will cover a lot of the camp cost. We will ask for a $36/child optional donation in June, but it’s not required.

I have an older kid who is more on the behavioral level of a younger kid. How will this be handled?

Your child can be with whichever bunk and group you are comfortable with. Our Assistant Director Ashley is a former special education teacher, and we’re well equipped to make sure that every child enjoys themselves and feels comfortable.

We’d have to drive a long way- are there places we could stay nearby? Could we camp?

Boulder River Valley is a beautiful place to camp. Most of the campsites do not take reservations. We’re going to try to see if we can, as a group, reserve a couple of spots. We’re also happy to coordinate transportation between families, and we may be receiving assistance with this from the Montana Jewish Project.

How is medication handled?

We’ll have a medical professional onsite for camp. When campers arrive, we’ll check in medications with our medical professional, and they will distribute meds to the campers.

Is the camp officially kosher?

Meals will be primarily kosher-style and vegetarian. Mimangish does not have the necessary facilities to be called kosher.

I have a question not on this list
